Woman dies in hospital after attack in Sompting

A 70-year-old woman who suffered serious head injuries at a house in West Sussex has died in hospital.

Sandra Boakes was found injured at the property in Grasmere Avenue, Sompting, at about 18:45 BST on Thursday.

She was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, but Sussex Police said she died on Saturday night.

Dudley Boakes, 79, of Grasmere Avenue, Sompting, appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with attempted murder.

He was remanded to appear at Lewes Crown Court on April 25.

Sussex Police said a post-mortem examination would be held in the next week to establish the cause of Mrs Boakes' death.
