Brighton man Tasered after firing shots

A man was Tasered by police after firing shots from a flat window in Brighton.

Police were called to William Sutton House in Tichborne Street shortly after 22:00 BST on Friday.

A 50-year-old man was firing an air rifle from the rear of the flat and was refusing to come out, a police spokesman said.

After negotiations failed, firearms officers forced entry at 02:40 and Tasered him.

The man was initially arrested on suspicion of possession a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Police later said he was not being prosecuted and had been taken to hospital for treatment under the Mental Health Act.

Two air rifles were recovered from the flat. Nobody was shot during the incident.
