Eight people have been rescued after becoming cut off by the tide near the lighthouse at Beachy Head, East Sussex.

The three adults and five children, all from one family, had been trying to walk along the beach from Birling Gap to Eastbourne when they were stranded.

Eastbourne RNLI scrambled its two lifeboats to rescue the group at about 19:30 BST on Sunday.

Dover Coastguard said they were brought back to Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne.
