Eastbourne man, 75, attacked by pavement cyclist

A 75-year-old man was left with fractures to his face and collarbone when he was attacked by a cyclist who was riding on the pavement.

The man was waking in Brassey Avenue in Eastbourne, East Sussex, when he spoke with a cyclist who was riding behind him on Monday night.

The cyclist threatened the man and punched him repeatedly in the face, Det Sgt John Steven said.

The injured man fell to the ground and his attacker rode off.

Det Sgt Steven, of Sussex Police, said the "really nasty attack" had been unprovoked.

The cyclist is believed to be in his 50s, is described as having light grey hair and was possibly wearing a red top.

Officers are appealing for witnesses.
