A robber who escaped custody after being taken into hospital in Brighton for medical treatment has been jailed.

Jamie Halifax, 25, was due to be sentenced before he ran off on 27 July while being treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, where he had been taken by the Prison Service.

Sussex Police said he was found in Sutton, south London, on 24 August.

Lewes Crown Court jailed him for six years with an extended licence for three years.

Earlier this year, Halifax pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery and three counts of being in possession of an offensive weapon.

He was also convicted of two further counts of robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.

Halifax was also jailed for six months for escaping lawful custody, to run consecutively to the sentence for robbery.
