Man pleads guilty to wife manslaughter at Sompting home

A 79-year-old man has been sentenced to be detained indefinitely in hospital for the manslaughter of his wife in West Sussex.

Sandra Boakes, 70, was found suffering head injuries at the couple's home in Grasmere Avenue, Sompting, on 6 April.

Dudley Boakes, appearing at Lewes Crown Court, pleaded guilty to manslaughter by virtue of diminished responsibility.

After the attack, Mrs Boakes was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where she later died.
