'Seagull proof' rubbish sacks introduced in Hastings

"Seagull proof" rubbish sacks have been introduced in Hastings to stop litter being blown around the town.

Residents in Hastings' Old Town have been provided with sacks for their rubbish on collection day.

Hastings Borough Council said they were "peck and rip proof".

Councillor Peter Chowney said: "Seagulls are a pest on waste collection day as they tear open sacks of rubbish to gorge themselves on the pickings inside."
