Norovirus: Sussex hospital wards shut to visitors

Seven wards at a West Sussex hospital have been closed to visitors following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

A total of 55 patients and 35 members of staff have been affected by norovirus at The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

Chief nurse, Sheree Fagge, said they had to restrict people moving around the wards to "stop the spread of this very nasty strain of norovirus".

Symptoms of the bug include nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

"We will of course discuss special arrangements for individual patients and we thank everyone for their co-operation at this particularly difficult time," she added.
