A five-month-old baby has suffered "life-changing injuries" in a fire at a nail salon in East Sussex .

The boy and a man and woman, all thought to be related, were seriously hurt in the blaze at Hollywood Nails, Hailsham, at 17:20 GMT on Wednesday.

Sussex Police said the boy remained in a critical condition after the "distressing incident".

The man, 51, who is believed to be his father, suffered "life-threatening burn injuries", police said.

All three were initially taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, with the boy being moved to a specialist burns unit at the Bristol Royal Infirmary later.

Specialist investigation

The child showed some improvement overnight, police said.

The man is being treated at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.

The woman, aged 25, who suffered serious injuries, remains in hospital in Brighton where she is in a stable condition.

Detectives said the injuries were caused by a "short-lived fire" that was out when fire crews arrived.

Det Insp Andy Harbour said the force was not looking for anyone else in connection with the "distressing incident" and was working with the fire service and specialist forensic investigators to piece together exactly what happened.

"Understandably, this has attracted a lot of interest locally, but I would like to reassure people that this incident was confined to these three people who are all known to each other," he said.
