Sussex death crash lorry driver sentenced

A lorry driver has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting causing death by careless driving in Sussex.

Andrew May, 45, of Truro Road, Doncaster, had earlier been found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving at Chichester Crown Court.

May's lorry crashed into a Vauxhall Zafira on the A27, fatally injuring passenger Ernest Humphrey, 79.

Mr Humphrey died in hospital after the crash on 25 July 2013.

May, 45, was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was also ordered to do 250 hours of unpaid work. and pay a victim's surcharge of £80.
