Two men wearing balaclavas got away with several thousand pounds in cash after forcing their way into a fish and chip restaurant opposite Brighton Pier.

Sussex Police said two men forced the rear door of Harry Ramsden's in Marine Parade just before 08:00 BST.

The manager was forced to open the safe for the raiders, who took the cash before leaving via the back door.

The manager was not injured and raised the alarm. Detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A police spokeswoman said the area was busy at the time with deliveries being made to nearby businesses.

The robbers are described as white men with foreign accents. They were both wearing balaclavas, dark jogging bottom and black jackets.
