Police officers attacked by woman in Brighton

Three Sussex Police officers responding to a report that a woman had assaulted her partner, mother and a girl in Brighton were then also attacked.

The woman punched the officers, pulled their hair and tried to bite them when they went to the address in Melbourne Street at 10:45 BST on Saturday.

She was then restrained after police used a spray to subdue her.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault and assaulting police officers.

Det Insp Jason Hazzard said: "The woman was violent towards both members of her own family and the attending officers.

"Thankfully, the victims suffered only cuts and bruises when they were assaulted. The officers have not suffered any lasting injuries."
