Sussex Police said the 36-year-old was found in Chawbrook Road near her home with a head injury on 26 April.

Officers said it was believed she may have been in an altercation with a man in the street where she was found.

The woman, who was taken to a specialist neurological centre where she was found to have a fractured skull, died on Monday.

Police said the woman was found at the junction with Dudley Road and Havelock Road, just before 23:00 BST.

He appealed to anyone who saw anything suspicious, such as an argument or a man walking away from the scene, to contact the force.
