A man has admitted causing the death by dangerous driving of a cyclist in St Leonards on New Year's Day.

Jamie Murray, 23, of The Marina in St Leonards, died at the scene on the A259 Grand Parade at 04:00 GMT on 1 January.

Luke Headach, 24, of Wickham Avenue in Bexhill, pleaded guilty to the charge at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday.

He denies a charge of causing death by careless driving while over the drink-drive limit and will appear at a special court hearing on Wednesday.

So-called Newton hearings are held when a defendant has pleaded guilty but the facts of his or her mitigation are disputed.

Headach admitted failing to stop at the scene of a crash and attempting to pervert the course of justice at a previous hearing.

Mr Murray was killed close to the Royal Victoria Hotel in St Leonards on New Year's Day.
