Criminal damage down in Middlesbrough

Crime in Middlesbrough has dropped in the past year, Teesside Police have said.

Middlesbrough's central Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) released its annual figures on Tuesday.

Figures for June this year showed a drop of 26% in criminal damage compared with the same period last year.

Cleveland Police said a number of initiatives combined with help from locals had allowed the force to improve figures.

Anti-social behaviour also dropped by 13%.

Sgt Sharon Cooney said: "These excellent figures reflect the hard work of ward officers, police community support officers and local residents who are simply not prepared to tolerate these crimes in their community.

"Tenants who cause misery and nuisance are also tackled quickly, in partnership with landlords and the local authority."
