Man remanded over Teesside kidnapping and murder

A man has been remanded in custody charged with the kidnap and murder of a Teesside man.

John Newton was found with serious head injuries when police were called to Brimham Court, Redcar, on Saturday.

The 45-year-old, of Brimham Court, was taken to James Cook Memorial Hospital, but died on Monday afternoon.

Stephen Thomas, 29, appeared before Teesside Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. He will appear at crown court on Thursday.

Two other men, aged 25 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
