Naked man arrested in field dies, sparking IPCC inquiry

A man died shortly after being arrested naked on farmland, prompting an investigation by the police watchdog.

Kirk Williams was detained by police on Sunday in a field off the Moorhouse Estate, near Eaglescliffe, Teesside, on suspicion of a breach of the peace.

He was arrested by Cleveland Police and later taken to the James Cook University Hospital, where he died.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been told and is investigating the 26-year-old's death.

Assistant Chief Constable of Cleveland Police Sean White said: "Clearly our thoughts and sympathies are with the man's family at this time.

"The IPCC are independently investigating, therefore it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage."
