Two hurt in Middlesbrough police pursuit crash

An elderly woman and a man have been taken to hospital after their car was hit by a vehicle being pursued by police in Middlesbrough.

The crash happened as officers in an unmarked car were following a black Ford Focus on Bridge Street West.

A 29-year-old man driving the Ford Focus was arrested after the vehicle collided with a Peugeot at traffic lights on Thursday.

The 74-year-old woman passenger in the Peugeot suffered a broken breastbone.

The 21-year-old male driver suffered minor injuries while a two-year-old child who was also in the car was unhurt.

All three were taken to James Cook University Hospital.
