Warning over bogus 'probation' sellers con

Householders are being urged to be on their guard for cold callers pretending to be selling goods on behalf of the Probation Service.

Police said the bogus callers had targeted several homes in Hartlepool selling household items.

Officers said it was an "old scam" and the fraudsters were claiming the scheme was to help them build their "confidence" to get jobs.

Victims of the scam are being urged to get in touch with Cleveland Police.
