Danger warning over railway trespass in Darlington

Young people in Darlington have been warned to stay off railway tracks, following incidents of trespass.

British Transport Police said groups of youths had been spotted on the East Coast mainline on a number of occasions over the past few weeks.

These included reports of trespass between Green Lane and Haughton Road on three consecutive nights.

Those taking part have been warned they are gambling with their lives. Patrols in the area have been increased.

Tanya Rickard, of British Transport Police, said: "The railway is an inherently dangerous environment, with high speed trains and electric currents, and it should never be treated as a playground or somewhere to hang about."
