Crush warning to illegal bikers in Stockton

Illegal bikers plaguing a Teesside estate will have their machines crushed if caught, police have warned.

Extra patrols are being mounted on Stockton's Hardwick estate after growing complaints from residents about off-road bikers.

Cleveland Police said the antics of some youths, who have been seen speeding and not wearing safety gear, was putting lives at risk.

A spokesman said efforts were being made to trace those involved.

He said: "We are taking steps to clamp down on this behaviour which is extremely distressing for the law abiding majority on the estate.

"We are now asking for residents' help in providing details of where these bikes are coming from, where they are stored or garaged and who is riding them.

"This problem can blight communities and spoil residents' quality of life."
