Funds approved for £4.9m arts complex in Redcar

Plans for a £4.9m arts and performance centre for young people in Redcar have been approved by council bosses.

The complex, called Tuned In!@myplace, will give youngsters between 13 and 19 state-of-the-art music, drama and film-making facilities.

Construction work at a beach side location at Coatham, is due to begin early next month.

Funds have come from Redcar and Cleveland Council, the Big Lottery Fund and central government.

Joan Guy, cabinet member for children's services and education at Redcar and Cleveland Council, said: "This is an exciting collaboration between ourselves and the young people of the borough and it really has captured the imaginations of all involved.

"The centre will feature six zones, including a multimedia suite, art studio and performance area, as well as a cafe bar and one-stop-shop advice facility."
