Pair held after firearms found in car in County Durham

Two men are being held after firearms were discovered in a car which was stopped on the A66 in County Durham.

Durham Police officers stopped a blue and silver Mitsubishi Animal which was travelling eastbound towards Stockton on Thursday evening.

Two as-yet unidentified firearms were found in the vehicle and a 46-year-old man from Hartlepool was arrested.

Shortly afterwards police swooped on a house in Darlington where a man aged 49 was also arrested.

A spokeswoman for the Durham force said both men were being questioned at Spennymoor police station.
