The condition of a former Teesside man found seriously injured in Australia has improved slightly.

Daniel Moore, 21, from Marske near Redcar, was found hurt and unconscious in a street in Sydney's Manly area.

His parents flew out to be with him and have appealed for help in finding out what happened to him.

A spokeswoman at the Royal North Shore Hospital said he was still seriously ill but his condition was now serious rather than critical.

He is being treated for a fractured skull and ribs and internal bleeding after being found on 26 June.

Mr Moore has been living and working in the Sydney area for two years.

New South Wales Police said they were trying to find out if he was attacked or the victim of a hit-and-run.
