Skateboarders urged away from unsafe Hartlepool factory

Police are urging skaters to stay away from a disused factory in Hartlepool.

They said the Sharwoods factory in Greatham was unsafe and there was a risk of asbestos on the site.

Officers have asked skateboarders, who have been promoting the area on websites as a good place to train, to stick to skate parks.

The MP for Hartlepool Ian Wright said: "I don't want to be a killjoy but this is life threatening - the police cannot be patrolling all the time."

"I want to keep skateboarders safe, and so it is a question of saying to them, in the strongest possible terms, there's asbetsos, there's dangerous things."
