Stockton PCSO hit in face by thrown missile

A police community support officer "could have been blinded" when she was hit in the face with a missile while talking to young people on Teesside.

She suffered bruising when what is thought to be a small stone was thrown at her in a recreation ground in Stockton on Wednesday.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said the officer was deliberately targeted.

The area, near Norton Avenue, was busy at the time, and anyone with information is urged to come forward.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "The individual responsible clearly intended to injure the officer, and indeed could have caused very serious damage had it been a fraction closer to her eye.

"We have been having problems with youths at the recreation ground so the PCSO was engaging with the youths at the time of the attack and was trying to speak to them at their level to try to solve the issues in the area."
