A woman has been injured in a suspected gas explosion at a house on Teesside.

The blast happened just before 13:00 BST at an empty property in Sheriff Street, Hartlepool, as the woman was walking past.

A 50m cordon has now been lifted and residents of Tankerville Street and Thornville Road have been allowed to return home.

It is believed the woman was not badly injured. Four properties nearby were damaged in the explosion.

They are currently being assessed by a structural engineer.
