Body found in search for missing Darlington farm worker

Police searching for a missing Polish farmhand and her brother have found a body hanging from a tree close to the farm where they both lived.

Danuta Domagalska, 27, worked at New Moor Farm near Darlington and has not been seen since 6 August.

Her brother Piotr Lawniczak disappeared shortly afterwards.

Durham Police said officers discovered the body of an as-yet unidentified man hanging from a tree in dense woodland close to the farm.

Specialist search teams have spent the past 24 hours focusing on ponds and slurry pits in the hunt for Mrs Domagalska.

Officers investigating her disappearance had appealed for her 31-year-old brother to come forward.

Mother-of-one Mrs Domagalska lives in a cottage next to the farm with her husband Marcin Domagalski, who is working with police as a witness, and her brother.

A Durham Police spokesman said it was unclear how long the man's body had been in the wood.

He said: "There has still been no sighting of Mrs Domagalska. Teams will continue the search operation, which will include the draining of ponds and slurry pits over the next few days.

"Her husband continues to work very closely with us with the aid of an interpreter. He is very concerned, upset and worried. He is behaving as anyone would."

Police said Mrs Domagalska was popular on the farm and was "hard working and very friendly".

Mrs Domagalska's five-year-old son is being cared for by her mother in Poland.
