A body found hanging in woodland in County Durham has been identified as the brother of a missing Polish woman.

Piotr Lawniczak, 31, was found hanging from a tree on Wednesday close to the Darlington farm where he and his sister Danuta Domagalska, 27, lived.

Mrs Domagalska was last seen at New Moor Farm on 6 August. Mr Lawniczak disappeared shortly afterwards.

Durham Police said the search for Mrs Domagalska was continuing and was focussing on ponds and slurry pits.

However, a force spokesman admitted hopes were fading of finding the mother-of-one alive.

Mrs Domagalska lived in a cottage next to the farm with her husband Marcin Domagalski, who is working with police as a witness, and her brother.

Det Supt Adrian Green, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our efforts will continue to find Danuta, but I have to be realistic and accept the chances of finding her alive are very slim."

Police said Mrs Domagalska, who has worked on the farm for three years, was "popular hard working and very friendly".

She has a five-year-old son who is being cared for by her mother in Poland.
