A Teesside museum has closed to the public for a year to undergo a £7m redevelopment.

Preston Hall Museum in Stockton will be shut until summer 2012 for restoration including a new jetty and upgraded hall.

During the restoration work the 1825 building's park, which includes woodland walks and an adventure playground, will remain open.

The scheme has attracted £3.58m of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The museum will display art, armour and social history exhibitions when it reopens.
