A new community fire station is to be officially opened on Teesside.

The £1.4m station in Redcar is home to Cleveland Fire Brigade crews as well as teams from Cleveland Police and Redcar and Cleveland council.

The building, on the site of the old Trunk Road fire station, also has a community centre and fitness suites.

It will be officially opened on Friday. Fire crews have been based at the site since June after temporarily being stationed at Kirkleatham Business Park.

Ian Hayton, chief fire officer for Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: "This is a tremendously exciting new development for the area and a proud day for all the partners who have made this innovative project a reality.

"We hope this new community fire station will be seen as a beacon to the local community from where we will deliver our critical life-saving and life-changing services.

"These building developments will not only vastly improve the accommodation and working conditions for firefighters and staff, but will enable the fire and rescue service to work with partners to deliver young people's services and provide the best possible life chances for the young people of the area."
