The demolition of the old derelict library in Redcar has been completed in order to make way for a £31m leisure facility.

The development, which is hoped to be completed by December 2012, is expected to create 260 jobs in the town.

It will be built on the site of the library between Kirkleatham Street and Coatham Road.

The leisure centre is part of a £75m investment to revamp the town over the next three years.

The facility will include a swimming pool and leisure pool, dance hall and performance space, fitness suite and sports hall.

There will also be car parking and landscaped public spaces.
