A man has been charged over the road death of a Teesside boy.

Nine-year-old Brandon Maggs died in hospital after he was struck by a car in Roundhill Avenue, Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton, on 15 July.

Cleveland Police said a 19-year-old local man arrested shortly afterwards had been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

A force spokeswoman said the man was due to appear before Teesside magistrates on 3 October.

After Brandon's death residents in Ingleby Barwick began a campaign to lower the speed limit in the area to 20mph.

Stockton Council has promised to consider the move once the police investigation into the child's death is completed.
