Crook car crash driver 'suffered heart attack'

A man died after apparently suffering a heart attack at the wheel of the car he was driving in County Durham, police said.

Emergency services were called to a crash involving two cars on the A690 at Helmington Row, near Crook, on Tuesday.

Morris Taylorson, 82, of Willington, was pronounced dead at hospital. His female passenger, a 64-year-old cousin, was treated for bruising.

Durham Police said it was thought Mr Taylorson suffered a heart attack.

They said the car left the road, hit the wall of a house, before going back on to the carriageway and colliding with the other car.

The two people in the other car, a couple in their 70s, were not hurt.

A post-mortem examination will be held on Thursday to establish the formal cause of death.
