Tata steelworks in 'cleaner' waste plan

A Teesside steelworks is spending £170,000 in a new treatment plant to produce "cleaner" waste.

Tata Steel said its Skinningrove plant was already complying with environmental laws, but wanted the new works to "enhance" its performance.

It is also planning to discharge its effluent further out to sea off the coast at Saltburn.

A company spokesman said the firm was committed to being a responsible employer.
