Dog owner dies after being found at Saltburn cliffs

A man has died after being found at the bottom of cliffs on Teesside.

Volunteers for Redcar RNLI were called to Saltburn by a concerned member of the public who spotted a Rottweiler wandering around on the cliffs in a "distressed state".

Four lifeboat crews helped in the search and found a man at the base of the cliffs on Tuesday morning.

He was later declared dead. It is believed he fell while walking his dog on the cliffs, the RNLI said.

A spokesman said: "We were called after concerns were raised following the discovery of a dog in a distressed state on the top of Huntcliff, and with no sign of the owner.

"Four RNLI volunteers were put ashore, following a short search, a man was found with serious injuries at the base of the cliffs.

"The injured man was taken aboard the lifeboat and brought to the lifeboat station at Redcar."
