Cable 'thief' burned by live wire in Newcastle

A man suspected of trying to remove scrap metal from a derelict industrial unit has been taken to hospital after touching a live electricity cable.

Police say the 35-year-old was at a site in Walker, Newcastle, when the incident happened on Sunday.

The man has been taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary and is in a life threatening condition with electrical burns.

The incident happened shortly after 15:00 BST in Mitchell Street.
