Talks over Captain Shaw's school closure plan

The first of two meetings about plans to close a rural Cumbrian primary school is to be held.

Cumbria County Council is planning to shut Captain Shaw's School, in Bootle, and move pupils to Waberthwaite School.

It said it is because of falling pupil numbers in the area, with 16 pupils on the roll at Captain Shaw's and 38 at Waberthwaite.

Consultation events are being held at Captain Shaw's later and at Waberthwaite on Thursday.

At the meetings, parents and other members of the public will have the chance to speak to council officers and there will be a presentation.

People are also being invited to comment online. The consultation runs until 16 December.

A final decision is expected to be made in March.
