Man arrested after Stanhope knife attack

A man has been arrested after a 42-year-old woman was slashed with a knife in County Durham.

The local woman was walking from Crosshill Allotments in Stanhope at about 10:40 GMT on Tuesday when she was approached by a man from behind.

He struck the woman and attacked her with a knife, leaving her with injuries to her back, hand, neck and stomach.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack and is in custody at Bishop Auckland.

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene and later attended hospital voluntarily.
