Refitted Darlington hotel to create 50 jobs

A hotel which is more than 70 years old is due to reopen with a new name after a refit creating 50 jobs.

The Cairn Hotel Group has spent £3m renovating the former Scotch Corner Hotel on the junction of the A1 and the A66, near Darlington.

The newly named Holiday Inn Darlington A1 Scotch Corner will be officially opened on 19 January.

The original hotel was built in 1939 on the site of a 16th Century coaching inn.
