Teesside academies receive more than £8m investment

Designs for two Teesside academies receiving more than £8m of government investment will be revealed next week.

The Freebrough Academy in Brotton, Saltburn, will receive £2.8m for a new sixth form.

The Thornaby Academy in Thornaby, Stockton, will get £5.5m in the form of a new Business and Enterprise (BETA) Centre and new front entrances.

Construction is anticipated to start at both Thornaby and Freebrough Academies in April 2012.

Drawings showing how the Thornaby Academy buildings are likely to look will be displayed at the academy from 26 January.

Artist's impressions of how Freebrough Academy will look will be available from 25 January at the building.

Works at Freebrough Academy is expected to be finished by December 2012 while the buildings at Thornaby Academy will be complete by March 2013.

Principal of Thornaby Academy Maryssa O'Connor said: "We are all very excited about the improvements which will certainly support our young people's learning as well as supporting the wider community."
