A new biomass energy plant in County Durham has been officially opened.

The Dahlia plant in Chilton will make energy from recycled wood by creating wood chips which can then be burned as carbon neutral fuel.

A spokesperson from Dalkia said it would employ between 30 and 40 people at the plant and was looking for local workers.

Charles Hendry, Minister of State for the Department of Energy & Climate Change, attended the official opening.
