South Bank horse attacks probed by Cleveland Police

A horse bitten by a dog is the sixth to be attacked in the space of two months, police have said.

The horses have all been attacked in the South Bank area of Cleveland. A five-year-old mare became the latest victim when she was bitten by the dog.

PC Mike Pilbeam said five horses had been attacked by dogs and a sixth had been stabbed.

The latest victim's owner, David Smithson, said he was "disgusted" and said "something needs to be done".

His horse was on land next to Roberts Avenue in Grangetown when it was targeted.

"It could have been a child instead of a horse," Mr Smithson said. "It doesn't deserve to be treated or attacked the way it has been."
