Middlesbrough health boost from £1.2m cycle scheme

A £1.2m government grant is helping people in Middlesbrough towards a better quality of life through a new cycling scheme, the council said.

Middlesbrough Council secured the grant from the Department for Transport to encourage organisations to install free bike stands in their community.

Councillors say the scheme will help the local economy grow and cut carbon emissions in the town.

Community groups and businesses can apply for up to two parking stands.

Councillor Nicky Walker, said: "Cycling in Middlesbrough is increasingly popular so it's important that as a council we support people in their travel choices."
