A 23-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man found dead in a Teesside tower block.

Robert Baker, of Fleet House, Cargo Fleet Lane, Middlesbrough, is accused of killing John Coates, whose body was found at his flat in the same block on 13 September.

Police said the 61-year-old died from head injuries.

Mr Baker was remanded in custody by magistrates and will appear at Teesside Crown Court on Tuesday.
