A688 crash death motorcyclist named as Jerzy Tomczyk

A motorcyclist who died in a collision involving a van in County Durham has been named by police.

The crash happened on the A688 near Cockfield on Friday evening at the junction with Burnt Houses Lane.

The motorcyclist, 29-year-old Jerzy Tomczyk from Durham's Gilesgate area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His Honda motorbike collided with a Citroen Berlingo van, Durham Police said.

The Citroen driver was treated for shock, but was unhurt.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened at 18:00 BST, to get in touch.
