A 16-year-old boy remains in a critical condition in hospital after he hit a tree while out sledging on Teesside.

Liam Stafford was hurt near Flatts Lane Country Park in Normanby on Sunday afternoon.

The teenager was flown to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough by the Great North Air Ambulance.

There were school closures around Teesside and County Durham on Monday with more ice and snow forecast for Tuesday.

Durham Police said the majority of main roads were passable with care but the A66 was closed between Brough and Bowes and was not expected to reopen until Tuesday.
