Grove Hill estate in Middlesbrough could get new name

The Teesside housing estate where football legend Brian Clough spent his childhood could be renamed as part of efforts to regenerate the area.

Hundreds of homes in Grove Hill, Middlesbrough, have been demolished while rows more stand empty and boarded up.

A council scrutiny panel is suggesting a new name for the estate, which has been blighted by anti-social behaviour.

Clough grew up on Valley Road in the town.

In a report by Middlesbrough Council's Economic Regeneration and Transport Scrutiny Panel, chair Tracy Harvey said a rebranding would help "create a place where people want to live".

The panel found that various attempts to improve Grove Hill had failed to result in "long-lasting change".
