Killer Craig Hendley found after absconding from day release

A convicted murderer who absconded while on day release from a Teesside prison has been found.

Craig Hendley, 42, was last seen in Redcar at 13:40 BST on Wednesday, while on day release from Kirklevington Grange Prison with the Salvation Army.

He is serving a sentence for murder and has spent 20 years in various prisons.

Cleveland Police said Hendley had been found in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. He was returned to custody after being charged with being unlawfully at large.

Hendley was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment concurrent with his existing sentence at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Friday.
