Redcar man jailed for crashing stolen JCB into police car

A man has been jailed after admitting stealing a JCB and crashing it into a marked police car in Redcar.

The stolen JCB had been seen by witnesses "smashing" through a fence at a building site in Redcar Lane on 28 November, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Stephen Seaman, 27, of Lime Road, Normanby, reversed on to the the bonnet of the police car and damaged it when he could not get through a hedgerow.

He was sentenced to 20 months and banned from driving for two years.

Seaman admitted five offences including theft of a vehicle, causing criminal damage with intent to endanger life, and dangerous driving.

No-one was hurt in the incident.
